Northgate Canyon

Northgate Canyon is the premier whitewater section of the North Platte River. This 9.8 mile section includes the following rapids; Windy Hole, CowPie, Narrow Falls (the Gate), Tootsie Roll and Stovepipe. Below 1200 cfs, you should consider using small water vessels such as kayaks, packcats and packrafts to navigate Northgate Canyon.

The headwaters of the North Platte River begin in the mountains of north-central Colorado and flow north across the CO/WY border, towards Casper, WY. Once the river reaches Casper, it turns to the east & southeast on its way to the confluence with the South Platte River near North Platte, NB. Generally, the North Platte river is navigable during high water flows of May/June. Check the USGS Water Gage near North Platte, CO for current flows.
